Popping Shifter Off
I installed a B&M Shifter and lined it up wrong so it's a couple of mm too far forward which means I also used the wrong adjustment shims or whatever you call them. I know, dumb right. Anyway I figured this out a couple of weeks after I installed it (making a whirring noise in gear) when I took it apart again to see what was making the noise. I tried to pop the shifter off to line it up right, but the RTV gasket I made is holding firm. I've been beating on it with a mallet and a screw driver from a couple different angles trying to make it pop off (came of fairly easy the first time) but it won't give. I don't think anything other than brute force will get it to give, but I wanted to see if you had any bright ideas.

Try to use a hair dryer and heat the RTV to soften it up some, then a razor blade to cut the seal the RTV has around the base of the shifter; this should give it the final kick to let it go. Brute force may seem to be the best solution, but you don't want to damage the top of the trans housing.
The best remover for RTV I've tried is pure ammonia, it will usually weaken it to the point of release and will dissolve it away. But you can't use this in that area, Ammonia=Bad for trans if it gets in, so I would go try to heat it a little.
Make sure you dont heat the RTV too much with a heat gun, it makes a big mess if you do.

I haven't had a chance yet. Wrapped up in a lot of work stuff at the moment. Will try it this weekend and let you know.
Thanks again.
