    no third gear

THE PROBLEM :went to the track last friday did a couple passes, 13.4 13.3 talking to another guy with a camaro he said something about flat footing it down the track, dont let off on the gas when your shifting, so i tried it, ran a 13.1, on my third "flat foot" pass on my 2-3 shift i heard a pop and missed third, or so i thought. at the end of the track it was hard as hell to get it into any gear, i forced it into the gears a couple times heard a clunk and then it got easier to go into gears. i decided my car had had enough abuse for one night and just watched till close. on the way home i shifted to third and let off the clutch and had nothing... third gear is gone, its like neutral. from a stop i can put it in third red line and drop the clutch and nothing happens... all other gears work fine, its just hard to get in and out of gear, no grinding. i drove it home using 1,2,5,6.

CLIFF NOTES: broke third gear at track, third acts like neutral, 4th gear rattle noise comes from transmission, shifter vibrates excessivly in 4th. all other gears work fine, hard to get in and out of gears, except reverse.

the car is parked now, im driving the beater...

one of the teachers said that some transmissions use pins or keys to hold the gear on the shaft, i prolly just sheared the pin. any ideas.

anyway you look at, you're gonna end up having to go inside the transmission to see for sure whats broke.

Like spaz said, clutch probably took a beating. Real hard on it when you don't llet off between shifts.
Can't tell the full extent till it's ripped apart

This... Shift no lift, or speed shifting is better left to those whom don't care if they bust stuff..

While I'm sure your clutch didn't care for it, it sounds perfectly fine from your description. Like said, its not even worth really guessing the actual damaged part, your trans is coming out one way or another. I always take pictures of my exploded parts for the viewing pleasure of others, and I expect you to do the same Good luck.

I had a buddy who had a trans-am that had the same type of issue. 13456 were cool, but 2nd was just empty. This car wasn't hard to get into and out of any of the other gears though. He sold it with the trans messed up, but till that, used to use it to screw with people. He'd let them drive it, and not tell them about 2nd...
