    NO 1st, 3rd, 5th or R gears. HELP!

I've had '97 Vette for about 4 years and put about 20k miles on it. Ever since buying it 1st gear was a little sticky. Had it to several mechanics who said it was not a problem.

Other day, backed out of my garage, drove about 1/8th mile and could no longer get car in 1st, 3rd, 5th, or Reverse. I am however able to drive in 2nd, 4th, and 6th.

I know nothing about Transmissions. Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Hopefully a quick and inexpensive fix

could be an air bubble in the cluch fluid... does it grind or anything when trying to get it in gear or is it like hitting a wall and not letting you in at all???

    does not grind.

it is like hitting a wall.

feels like there is not gate for the top gears.

has a hurst shifter, could that have been messed up somehow? i've had it on there for about 5k miles.

pull shift boot (the leather cover thingy)

Look for a screw of some type on the base of the shifter in the front

It should be a screw that is pointed at the rear of the car just loosen it a little and see if the shifter moves into the gears that were a problem the screw is just there to keep you from over shifting third but if it is not adjusted properly it will cause problems if you cant handle it just bring it to a trusted shop shouldnt charge too much
