    lost 5th gear??

I have no 5th gear... all other gears are fine. Rev wants to pop every once im a while but shifts just fine. When I go to engage 5th nothin happens no grind feels empty. Shifts straight to 6 no prob. Can this be a simple fix don't have the cash right now to rebuild it. Any help or advice would be great...

There's no way to fix it from outside the trany.

You'll need to drop it and get inside to see whats going on.

Ya for sure... but would this require a complete rebuild or just the replacement of a certain part?? Is it common to lose just one gear? Just need some advice on what to look for when I do take it out. I have been reading a lot of these threads on here and none really have my same issue. The trans shifts great through all gears except 5th and there is no grinding it does not engage at all. Hope that there is some sort of adjust that needs to be made

Again you won't know till you open it up.

Could need rebuilt, could just need a repair.

Without tearing it down there's really no way to solidly pin point your issue.

This is the fifth gear counter shaft assembly out of the trany (t-56).

This is part of the 5th and 6th gear assembly..

As you can see any one,, all,, or none of these could be the culprit.

There's a lot going on in an average t-56 transmission.

So being able to pin point the exact issue from out side the trany site unseen is going to be nearly impossible in the case of a totally dropped gear.

With that said, simply knowing "Common" T-56 issues is still not going to help here.

You simply have to get in there and look..

ya sadly there really is no way to tell. the good news is to replace 5th gear and reverse you only need to remove the tailhousing... I understand your on a budget but your honestly better off tearing it down yourself or have someone else do it because there maybe other parts worn. Like my tranny shifted perfect except for 2nd gear, but ended up having broken fork pads and a worn synchro hub.

A complete synchro kit is around 250 and will bring the 1-6 rings along with reverse and fork pads some even include new keys. However since its popping out of reverse it could be a worn synchro or bad key, or bad fork...

As far as 5th goes does it just no enter the gate or will it go in just nothing is there? Did it ever grind before this happened. It maybe a bad 5th gear because usually a synchro will grind while trying to put it into gear. There are no adjustments on the t56 so something is hurt.....

this link shows a pretty good step by step and what everything looks like

It will go in but nothin happens. What happened was I just rebuilt the engine beefed it up a little bit after everything was broken in I got on it pretty good and as I was goin into 3rd it went to 5th and did grind real bad and after that I lost it. The trans shifted fine before that. That link helps a lot thanks. I will pull it out and rebuild just a little intimidated never messed with the trans before done everythin else just not a trans.

Yup lol its not all too hard its just time consuming and you need to keep everything in order. Like suggested be sure to get a long puller either buy one or make one. Since you say it ground and then just lost it. It sounds like you may have sheered the dog teeth off 5th gear. Again you wont know for sure unless you tear it down but I would go through it all.
