Wanting to install new gears before spring and I was wondering what was the best setup for a six speed that sees street and strip time. The car has 3.42's now was thinking about going with 4.10's what do you guys think

I wasn't sure which way to go with this one when I was considering my gear swap almost a year ago. I ended up going with Motive 3.90's and have been quite pleased with them....they really do seem to wake a 6-speed up! Driving around town is about to become even more fun!
I will say this....I was concerned about gas mileage and additional loss of traction so I decided on the 3.90s over the 4.10s. Given that they only have a nominal effect on gas mileage and I can't get a bit of traction in first and most of second gear anyways, I'm definitely going with 4.11s when I swap to a 9" rear end.2002 Camaro SS M6, 2.5 PRC 5.3L heads, TFS 228/230 cam, FAST 92, bolt ons + a 10 lb bottle in the back.

I have the Richmond 4.10's and I LOVE the ratio, totally woke the car up, however I HATE the noise, It gets so annoying sometimes i think about changing back, I have heard motives are not as noisy.

I have heard both Motive and Richmond both tend to whine after a while. My drivetrain mechanic tells everyone stick with GM. I have had my GM 4.10s installed for over a year now and there isn't even a hint of noise coming from the rear. I did also follow strict break in instructions, 500 miles (city), and over 12 heat up/cool down cycles.

How much do you guys think a stock car would improve from 3.9s or 4.11s in the quarter mile?
