Hurst shifter?
I'm looking at getting a Hurst shifter for my '01 T/A WS6. I've heard that the stock shifter is really good and that I shouldnt replace it. I just like the look of the shifter in the chrome with HURST engraved down the side. Would it actually decrease performance. Would it make it any better or just stay the same? I dont know much about these cars yet and am still trying to figure out how good all the parts are in stock form.

The factory Hurst shifter only needs a new stick without the rubber bushings on it. The rubber bushings make for a sloppy shifter with a very vague feel to it. A Lou's short stick or one of the other short sticks will give a much improved feel. Rpo code BBS should be on the driver door sticker if you have the factory Hurst. The standard shifter has a stamped base on it and is flimsy. The Hurst shifter has a thick metal plate for a base.

Hurst Shifters 3915061 - Hurst Billet/Plus Shifters
That's the one I'm looking at. My car is bone stock right now with a full header/exhaust upgrade and air intake upgrade coming after the engine gets replaced. I just want a shifter that looks badass and isnt worse than stock. I like the Hurst one because my dad has a similar autmatic Hurst in his '79 T/A 455 (H.O. swap). The way that little bit of chrome in the interior shines just looks awesome. Here's a pic.

That looks pretty bad ass for an auto shifter!

Thats the same shifter I have- wish it was a shorter shifter. It rattles a bit but is real nice.

That auto is actually really rare. It's a Hurst Dual Gate 2.0 shifter. They're very hard to find now-a-days and usually go for $800+ on ebay if I remember correctly. We managed to find one still in the stock room at our local Parks Auto Parts. It had probably been sitting there untouched since they unloaded it off the truck in the '80s or so.
