How can you tell if the transmission case is bad?

Just as the title says, how can you tell if the transmission case, other than appearance is going bad?

Now you have sparked my interest. I didn't realize a transmission case was a wear item. I assumed it was good as long as it wasn't cracked or had a huge hole in the side. Even then, it is aluminum and can be welded. I'm hanging out to see the answer to this question.

If it doesn't leak then it should be good to go. It's not a wear item.

    O. Sounds good. Someone on here I cant remember, told me that the case integrity could cause problems. I was left confused and doubting myself....felt like someone told me that Iwas all out of blinker fluid if you know what I mean.

As a generality, transmission cases can suffer from casting porosity. For our older cars that came equipped with Muncies, there is a section of the service manual that deals with this issue. The fix is to disassemble the transmission, clean the affected area and then cover it with a coat of epoxy. I have not heard of this issue being raised on here previously for T-56's.

I finally pulled the transmission case all the way off last night. All the gears look great, and the case looks ok. There is a spot inside of it that concerns me a little. I will put up a pic to see what anyone else thinks. I am not to worried about it, but id rather have someone elses opinion.
