Grinding in 3rd and 4th
Just got a 2001 Camaro, LS1, T56 - There is resistance (and subtle grinding) going into 3rd and into 4th and it sometimes pops out of 4th. I have been told everything from: Add some fluid to complete rebuild. Please give me some ideas on how to smooth this out. If it is just the syncro, what should that cost to fix? Can I do it myself? Can you refer me to good esources.
Also the speedo reads about 47 MPH at 65 MPH - Any help with that?

Sounds like a synchronizer assembly to me. When blocker rings get worn, they can create clash when you try and engage a gear, especially while moving. If the synchronizer assembly becomes very worn, it can also allow the trans to pop out of gear.
In order to correct the issue, the trans would need to be disassembled and serviced.

Thanks Wesman, Does anyone know what this should cost? The quotes I have heard sound like a complete rebuild.

In all honesty, if you're going to go through the trouble to fix the 3-4 synchro/shift fork, you might as well do a rebuild while its all apart. At the very least, change blocker rings, shift keys, fork pads, and seals.
As long as the synchro hubs, gears, and bearings look fine, they shouldn't need to be changed though.
