    grind into 3rd

    Sup,
Im new to ls1.com i have a (recently purchased month or so) 99 t/a m6, that will grind into 3rd if i am not careful driving. Took it to one guy said it was the clutch because its play is really soft. Now my better judgement says its a trans not the clutch. Opinions, options, and or suggestions? Should i rebuild or buy a new 1?

I'll answer this here, but for future reference you need to make your own thread for questions like these, under the technical help section. You will get more feedback that way.

If your clutch pedal is feeling soft, and you're having grinding issues, it's likely neither your clutch nor the tranny itself. Your culprit will probably either be the master or slave cylinder to the clutch. That being said, you would save a lot of future headache by going ahead and installing a clutch kit, master cylinder, slave cylinder, pilot bearing at the same time, as you already will have the tranny out for any one of those...and you don't want to do/pay for that kind of labor twice. Hope that helps.

Also, I highly recommend the LS7 kit, and I believe KYSpeed, one of our sponsors (I think they still are?), can help you out in getting all these parts at a decent price (don't ever let a mechanic buy the parts, they charge way over real value, and usually get cheap crap.)
