Are you asking if you can use a 6 speed transmission out of a mustang in your t56 firebird?

.....mustangs had T-45 5 speeds, i think the only mustangs to get 6 spds were the 03-04 cobras.

bww is right, the only mustangs that use the T56 is the 03-04 Cobra. what year is your bird, some use the Borg-Warner tranny and newer f-bodys use the Tremec tranny with a larger clutch. thats all i know but i would do more research

the mustang T-56 uses a different spline count on the input shaft, just like the viper t-56 uses a unique spline count. the bolt pattern on the bellhousing is different......IMO it wouldnt be worth it to try to screw with it. just get a T-56 from another 98-02 F-body and be done with it.

There are also differences in input shaft length, pilot diameter, shifter & position, mounts & location,as well as converting the speed pick up. Although a good trans shop could do this , it will certainly cost more than a rebuild/ replacement of the correct model for your car.( even if you got the Mustang unit free)
    BTW
The input spline of a Viper is the same as an Fcar.
