Do I need a new clutch?

Hey Guys,

I think I need to get a new clutch, but I'm not sure. My clutch engages at about an inch before it is all the way let out, and when skipping gears (1st to 4th, 2nd to 5th, etc) it takes a few seconds to engage, and if I gun it, the clutch will chatter until it grips. It is also very hard to start in 1st without chattering. Clutch grabs great when driving smoothly from gear to gear with easy gas. Also, do you think the chatter could be that I need new tranny mounts? Sometimes the chatter is ridiculous. Before I go ahead and get a new clutch, I just wanted to get some opinions.Thanks guys!

im also curious about this. My 2002 SS LE i just got has very little pedal travel, but no chatter, no slipping, just about half way in its full disengaged. and i kinda jumps a little if you shift with the rpm's too low, but that could just be me, but definatly no noise or chatter.

Well, I know that a lot of these cars have have clutches that let out pretty late, but I've heard when it really starts getting short is when you are gona need to get a clutch soon.

What kind of clutch are you running ? Some have chatter is it a racing clutch ?

I bought the car with this clutch, so I don't know for sure, but I was told it has a "stage three clutch". I know some clutches chatter, but it's been getting worse, and the hole loss of power, and sometimes burning smell has me skeptical lol.
