Dexron VI in a Manual Transmission

can anyone tell me why you CANNOT run dexron VI in my 2002 trans am with a 6 speed manual? Why is Dexron III allowed and Dexron VI isn't?

this is my educated guess..becuase there is a formula change with VI over III..so the gaskets, and everything else is designed to work with III but VI might eat or degrade gaskets and so forth very fast.

i put the dexron VI in mine and put on maybe 50 kms and read that it is a no no, so i dumped the oil last night and let it drip over night. i will be filling it up with gm's manual tranny oil tonight.

USE ATF 3 its what the owners manual says to use

other atf fluid like 4 or 5 or789938078 may be a type of synthetic and that is a no no for our syncros

A GM Service Bulletin says the following:

The content of this bulletin does not apply to manual transmissions or transfer cases. Any vehicle that previously required DEXRON®-III for a manual transmission or transfer case should now use P/N 88861800. This fluid is labeled Manual Transmission and Transfer Case Fluid. Power Steering Systems should now use P/N 9985010 labeled Power Steering Fluid.

dex vI (88861003) is not allowed in manual transmissions or power steering thats what the back of the gm dex vI bottle says. I went to the dealer yesterday use part # 88861800 its called manual tranmission and transfer case fluid it was $30.72 for 4qts. Thats the part # number alldata revised also
