    Counter shaft breaking??

Early 2008 I finally fixed my T56. Nearly a whole year passed knowing that she had no 5-6 & reverse. Until my tax refund came I finally took her to get checked out.

The counter shafts teeth broke where it connects with the other half??? This happened on the freeway one day and I downshifted to 5th had nothing but high revs.

Has this happened to others or was I ripped off by the tran shop?

There are (I think) 6 lugs that engage the couter shaft extension to the main countershaft. I have seen these break. I don't think the all go at once but when that last one goes you will loose 5th 6th and reverse. Be sure they properly shim the rear cluster extension on the rebuild( it will have to be replaced). A careful look at the mating lugs on the main clustergear should be done. If they have any cracks ( magna flux), the cluster should also be replaced.
