Bright Red- 1999 Camaro Z28
Clutch Slave Cylinder- Part Number History - pics
Took me ages to compile this data so might as well share it. My research related to my 1999 LS1 Camaro
GM part numbers: All their slaves have aP embossed on the aluminum casting base
Discontinued part numbers
15018532 - smooth pale yellow disconnect with part # etched on - casting clock & USA embossed on base
12565145 - waisted pale green disconnect with part # etched on - casting clock & USA embossed on base
15046288 - waisted pale green disconnect - no part # (?) - D951004 embossed on base
Current part (January 2012)
24264182 - waisted gold disconnect - no part # anywhere - D951004 embossed on base - Made in Mexico
Below is the disconnect sleeve on the original slave from when I purchased the vehicle in May 1999. You can just make out the part number etched into the pale yellow anodized disconnect sleeve. The aP casting from which this part was assembled appeared to be made in the USA. A "9" in the casting clock might suggest 1999?
Around June 2001 I replaced the original slave with the latest at that time. Again you can just see the part number on the disconnect which has now been changed to a pale green one.The aP casting from which this part was assembled appeared to be made in the USA. A "0" in the casting clock might suggest 2000?
I never needed to installed the 3rd version, 15046288, which appeared in photos to have also have a pale green disconnect. And, it looks like the castings were changed at this point. If I might speculate, I'd say they were outsourced to Mexico. They look a less refined and had "D951004" embossed on the base flange
This is what I'll be installing soon. I believe, but I can't be absolutely sure, it's the latest 24264182 version. I bought it from AutoZone for $64.99 + tax. It has D951004 embossed on the base.
Here they are, all together, side by side
Looking on the side they all seemed to be at different heights!
I didn't realize when I took this picture but the throw-out bearing with the straight edge on it was a little skewed to the base which exaggerated the height difference. Anyway, I decided to measure the difference and this is what I found.
Using the original 15018532 as a baseline:
12565145 was -.010"
24264182 was -.018"
Nothing too significant...
This latest slave appears to have a much better scraper seal to exclude the clutch dust that is ingested through the quill and contaminates the clutch fluid leading to a degradation of the entire hydraulic system. I used to experience that sticking/poor return of the clutch pedal after hard launches and my fluid was badly discolored with contaminants. Yes, I'm installing the Tick adjustable master and a remote bleeder also...Last edited by LimeyZ; 01-15-2012 at 08:01 AM.
