Clutch or gear??

    Question Clutch or gear??

    I ran my car at the dragstrip tonight. I ran 12 passes altogether... My only performance mod is a 4.11 GM Gear. On my last run, I stayed in 3rd and crossed the finish line at about 5500 rpms. On my way off the track, everytime I go to 3rd gear now, I have to force it and it grinds pretty good. It will go, but not without some grinding and force. What does that sound like? 3rd gear is the ONLY gear that is doing that. The other gears are fine, smooth shifting. It grinds EVERY time I shift it just about. The last run was also my best of the night. The only thing that I can think of that may have caused the grinding is that I stayed in 3rd till i redlined...

    Any help or diagnosis??

    You most likely either bent a shift fork, or bent one of the hollow and weak slider pins. It is very common for these transmissions to have these parts bend, causing the problems you described. Rodney at RPM Transmissions would be who I would recommend, he rebuilds all my customer's transmissions. Bob

    What about the synchronizer? It'll ease into 3rd if I shift normally from a stop.
