    chunks of metal in tranny

well we finally got the tranny out of the ss which took forever bc the dowels that hold the bellhousing to the engine got really rusty and basically locked it on there but once we got it out we took the little inspection plate off the top of the tranny and found chunks of metal all in there and they were sitting down in the tracks where the shifting linkage rides and blocking the shifter from going into reverse. so we got the chunks out of there so now it shifts into reverse just fine but we are going to tear the tranny apart to find out what broke. im not sure what broke bc it goes in every gear just fine ( only prob i had was some grinding every once in a while going into 3rd) but if anyone has an idea of what is broke that would be great.....or any tips about tearing down a t56 would be awesome. thanks

noone? ok well i tore apart the transmission and found that all the chunks of metal are from a magnet that some retard (idk if gm puts them in from factory or the tranny was taken out b4 and some guy put the magnet in there) im assuming the magnet was put in to collect metal shavings from getting in the gears and bearings and such......well somehow it got loose and the gears tore it all up.

You may post in the eastern section to see if you can find a local shop. If you want to do it yourself you might go on tech and ask over there also.

okay thanks for the tips. well we got all the chunks we could out of the tranny and then sprayed everything down with brake cleaner to clear out the smaller pieces. all of the gears look great. they aren broken or scared or discolored or anything so im gonna put it back together and back in the car. im tryin to get the car up to the tuner bc the engine isnt really running perfect either so i wanna get that fixed first.
