Can't hit 3rd on a high RPM shift with T56
Ok, i have 2000 Z28 SS with the T56 6 Speed. During normal day to day driving i can shift smoothly into all the gears. But in a high RPM race situation i can get 2nd with no problem, but when I go to 3rd it's like it gets locked out. I have to slow way down to even get it into gear. The car has 107,000 miles on it, but the tranny was just redone about 2000 miles ago according to the dealer i just bought it off of. Does anyone have any ideas?

There is no grinding. They replaced the syncros on the rebuild 2000 miles ago. is it possible for them to go bad already?

do you have the sticky clutch pedal? your clutch might need bled to get air out of the system.

mine did that too, changed out the crappy stock shifter and never had a problem since. When it happened to me though, it wasnt that it wouldn't go into third gear but it would tend to either hit the fork or whatever in between 3rd and 5th or it would just go into 5th. It ONLY happened at high RPM shifts and once i changed the shifter it was perfect.
Like said before, skip shift eliminator has nothing to do with a 2nd to third shift. The drill mod probably wont help you either because that was to cure the problem of the clutch sticking to the floor on high rpm shifts.

I agree with Kyle, get a new shifter. The stock one sucks.

Do what you want with the shifter but if you have not done the drill mod you will still have issues with 3rd.
