can I put different fluid in the trans? Also how much?

! just as the title says ! I know it's supposed to be Dextron |||, but I currently have (RP 75w-90) in there. B/c I thought it was supposed to be the best, but now I've been hearing otherwise. Also I don't know if I'm damaging it by using some other oil, buy I know is that it doesn't shift smooth really anymore. I feel as tho I have to double clutch it. Even after I just got it rebuilt to stage 2 components. Does have to do with my oil or clutch maybe? I got it done back in Dec. and the mechanic put my trans oil back in. It was still fresh oil and he knew it was the expensive kind so..... He didn't just wanna waste on me. I've been driving with this oil in there since like Sept/Oct. Is this or was this ok? Am I doing more damage then good to my internals and seals. Also how much do I need to fill it? is it 6 quarts?

It takes about 3 qts to fill, but I usually buy 4 and wind up using some of it as well because I use a pump and some gets wasted.

I've had both Amsoil and dexron III in there and I haven't noticed a bit of difference in shift quality, noise, function, etc...

I currently just run dexron III in it and change it about every 15-20,000 miles.

If you are having shift problems, and double clutching,,,,it's more than likely a clutch issue,,,hydraulics maybe...

Gear lube is WAY too thick for this transmission. Get that stuff out of there.

Ditto! That's what is causing your shift problems.
