Ahhh its whining!

So after a fun saturday night for me on Deer Park Avenue (the local hang out), apparently im paying for the price of fun.

So on to the problem,

I am getting a whining noise under accel, its most notable in 1st and 2nd gear (m6), and seems to be most noticeable at 1000-3000rpm. Im not sure if it continues into higher speeds since my exhaust drowns out everything. Road noise doesnt let me hear if its there in higher gears. Im pretty confident its not the rear since it isnt continously increasing, as in when i shift 1-2 it starts slower again, then gets faster. I havent had a chance to really check anything thoroughly, but im hoping someone may have had a similar problem and can offer some common problems that i may overlook.

my car has whined under acceleration the whole time ive owned it, ive never figured it out...ive always thought it sounded kinda cool, lol

well i checked the power steering and the fluid looks ok, a little low but not enough to cause whine i would think. it seems that it only makes whining noise in gear while accelerating. i tried revving from the t/b and i didnt hear a thing, i then did it in neutral in the car at a stop and didnt hear it either.

so im guessing that its not from under the hood since it seems to be only in gear and i would imagine that it wouldnt be anything under the hood being load related.

hmmm, guess ill check trans level, maybe its just one of those "drive it till it grenades" kinda problems.

When i get on it, and have some fun, the power steering pump gets hot, and WHINES!..

That could be the timing gear, sounds like a lil supercharger lol....yea I cant hear that with my exhaust any more lol!

ok ive done a pretty thorough check of everything i can think of. heres what i got so far:

I pulled out the console to make sure the lower boot didnt come loose, thinking maybe it was excessive trans noise.

I checked the all the acessories and it seems like there all ok.

I proceeded to drive the car around without the console and shift boot assemblies at which point i noticed that its the transmission thats doing it.

I can hear it through the shifter and it increases with trans speed relative to motor speed. As soon as i dump the car back into neutral, or push the clutch down, it stops whining. Even if the motor is still above idle. So im pretty much positive that its the transmission. It would have to be the input side of the trans since the way it reacts to engine speed and not road speed.

Now i just have to try to be sure that im not gonna go boom anytime soon.

could be your rearend too. Mine is noisy, when its in nuetral it doesnt make the noise. My pinion gear is loose or bearing is bad :P

and you just gotta know the right places to go, and as long as your not driving like an ass all over the place then its still a good place to go.

im in nassau as well actually. usually go up there saturday nights is its nice enough. keep an eye out for me if you go up on saturday's im usually with a black c6 vette, a blue 06 gto.

i didnt go to the HS, im in williston park few blocks away from the east williston train station. you maybe wana ride up to bellmore this friday, few people might be goin up
