    5th gear grind

    Hi guys,
Just like the title says, since I've had the car I've always had this 5th gear grind. It only happens once a day though, on the first drive of the day. And it only happens if it's cold outside (even though the car sits in a garage). When summer and spring come around it never happens, it only starts acting up during the late fall and winter months. If I let the car warm up to the point where the gauge reads 100+ I don't get the grind.
2000 WS6 T56, 124k miles, stock clutch, new MC, SC, clutch fluid (less than 10k miles).

I'm a bit of a T56 noob since i've always had an A4 up until now, so i'm now quite sure what the problem is, was hoping you guys could help me out.

If you need anymore info let me know.

Sounds like a bad synchro. Had the same thing happen on mine. I would highly suggest an upgrade to at least a stage 2 when you do the rebuild. That will really upgrade the synchros and such. Gearbox.org is who I had rebuild mine. Great job, and very reasonably priced. If you can remove the tranny yourself, and ship it to them, it's worth it.

It's been a couple of years now, so I don't remember exactly off hand. I think he quoted me around $900 total for a stage 1, maybe less. I ended up going with a stage 3 rebuild though. I think the parts were the main cost addition on that. I'll try to see if I can find the reciept in my folder tomorrow. If you call, he'll give you a ballpark figure on the phone.
