Not sure on the D&D, as my mechanic supplied all the parts. If nothing else call a tranny shop and ask. Or you can contact these people and they can steer you in the right direction: http://0174de9.netsolstores.com/index.asp

Does anyone know of a good t56 tranny shop around southern IL? I live close to St Louis and I have the same problem going on.

After looking at the prices, if your mechanically inclined and have someone that can help, do it yourself and forget the over priced slack asses. I wouldn't do so much stuff myself if mechanics were trustworthy! There are the exception. but at $83 an hour at our local GM dealership.. sorry i don't make that kind of money.

Is a press or any specialty tools needed to rebuild the tranny? I would be doing the 1a rebuild kit from six speed Inc.- slider assemblies, blocker rings, 3-4 shift fork, billet 3-4 keys, and bronze fork pads.

Other than basic hand tools, not to much. Snap ring pliers. Get a good set. Make sure it has the 90* tip also. Get the kind that you can switch to go open or close with the squeeze.

You might want to pick up a shop manual for the t-56. There are A LOT of components inside. Make sure you keep everything in order the way you took it out.

The one thing I remember about my rebuild were the snap rings; they were a pain-in-the-ass. We had a shitty pair of pliers to use though, so that's why. Took us one night and most of the next day.

If i were you I'd wait until i had the car appart before you order parts. ( in case you need something else) you won't have to order twice.

D&D transmissions above seemed very helpful. I'm also upgrading to a steel 3/4 fork and some bronze pads ( or atleast that is the plan)

Here's a decent article to help give you a vague idea of whats inside a T56 and the repair process.
