    3rd Gear Problem

I have a 2000 T/A M6 which had the transmission rebuilt about 2500 miles ago at the most.

Last night passing s slow assed car i did the 2/3 shift when it went into third it seemed to go in with less resistance than normal. after that whenever i try to shift to third there is a grind sometimes it will make a clunk and pop in. and it will go in if i'm going realllly slow. any other time it sounds like an idiot stripping gears. ....

I have a B&M Ripper shifter in the car.

I'm new to all of this and it's driving me nuts i just got the car running again after taking 3 days to change spark / wires (got rained out and it didn't quit raining)

3rd/ 4th shift fork damage is a well documented issue. search for an iron shift fork.

What did they do 2500 miles ago during the rebuild. Did they upgrade any parts? New synchros? Steel shift fork? I had a similar problem in 5th with mine many years ago. I ended up changing the synchros and shift fork. No problems after that. Only cost about $200 for parts.

I didn't see the rebuild statement. If they put a new aluminum 3/4 fork in there or the old one back in ..thats the problem.

Well, I'd say get new synchros and a steel shift fork. There is a performance shop about an hour away from you in Michigan. I can't remember the name, I'll look around. That's where I went to get the shift fork and synchros. I used to live in Sylvania. Well, for 24 years, just moved a year ago.

You may be thinking of D&D in Wixom, MI. I was not looking for the shop, however.

    Beat me to it. Haha.

That's where I got the parts. I did the labor myself. I have an online shop manual. Let me know if you need any info on the rebuild.

    3rd gear

i messed up 3rd gear on my 99 z with a quick shift from second to third. im not sure who makes it but there is also a hydraulic line upgrade which helps with fast 2nd to 3rd shifts. i think gm put a restricted line on from the factory so you cant speed shift and tear up the tranny. it didnt work i tore it up, and then upgraded to one of rockland standard gears killer t56 with steel fork and i upgraded the hydraulic line and added a stage 4 exedy clutch. that tranny is bad ass now and will scratch gears all the way to 4th. anyway good luck.

You are refering to the master-to slave feed line orifice. It was put there to protect the propshaft from impacts. The "drill mod" addresses this , or there are places that sell the modified feed lines.

    awesome Thanks

The 1-2 synchro was replaced the 3/4 wasn't.

What kinds of gasket kits/seals etc do i need or what else should i replace while i'm in there.

planning a steel fork for 3/4 and bronze fork pads for 1-2 & 3-4

You may want to wait untill you get it down. D&D can help with any level of "kit" you want.

Leaving an aluminum 3/4 fork also is a poor statement for their rebuild capabilities.

well considering the bill was almost 2 grand. whoever put the shift boot on only put in half the bolts, the re-install of the shifter used enough sealant you could have done 3 cars it kind of pissed me off. I would have done the work myself... i rarely trust a garage any more.

How long does it take D&D to ship, etc? don't want my car down for any more time than it has to be.

    Thanks again guys.

2 grand for a rebuild? what was bad in it originally. I had a guy in Dallas upgrade the 1-2 shift fork, 3-4 shift fork, bronze shift fork pads 1-6, hardened synchros 1-6, all parts and labor $750. even included him dropping the tranny and putting it back in.

But yeah if you gonna upgrade, might as well do it right and make the appropriate upgrades for your application and purposes. I would highly suggest what I did and be good to around 600+ HP.

Trace 02 is that all you did. are D&D Synchro's hardened? I am seriously considering doing the work myself. I'm poor.. and it feels good to know how it is

so i'm well open to what to do to make it stronger because i want it to be about a 500 HP car in the next year or so.
