    3-4 shift question on 95 Z28.

Quick question. I'm almost ready to make an offer on a 95 Z28. There is one thing I'm not so sure on though. Going from 3rd to 4th, you have the slam the gear lever because other than that it won't go in. Is this the dreaded 3-4 fork or is this just something that particular transmission does. Supposedly it has been doing this for a while and is not causing problems. Other than that, the car is pretty much perfect.

no it shouldn't be that way. Might be the fork or synchro. Something internal anyways.

Thanks for the info Cutlass. When the car is off it goes into every gear. When it is running, it won't go nicely into fourth. No grinding or anything. Just won't go in. I bought the car anyways since it will be a daily driver in the summer and restored/modified over the winter. I can live without fourth for now.

well since 4th runs off the input shaft, the problem could be some misalignment with the input shaft. Possibly the pilot bearing, cracked bellhousing, bellhousing bolts not tight, or missing alignment dowel.
