1999 Camaro

I am in the process of buying a 1999 Coupe Camaro.
We had it inspected and discovered that it won't switch into 5th gear.
My father is currently having the seller find out what is wrong but I was curious.
Does anyone know what may be wrong?

Its really hard to say without driving it . Will it scratch trying to put it in 5th gear or does it flat out not want to go into 5th gear ?

I talked to the seller yesterday, he is the one fixing it before we finish the purchase.
he said alot of stuff i didn't understand, but something about a piece that they tried to bend back but it wouldn't so they are replacing that piece.
then he also said that the reverse wouldn't push all the way back.
i guess they've got it figured out and it'll be done soon so i can be out on the road!
