B&M 24K is a favorite, been in my car for years with no problems. I don't have a shift kit, just got a converter tune to increase the line pressure some, raised in gear idle, delete torque management... I'd say try a tune first, you can always change the pressure back to stock and then go through the expense of a kit and installation. I initially bought a shift kit, still sitting here unopened.

i got a 29 x 19 x 2 cm oil cooler, i think it's a b&m. no extra measures like a shift kit and works perfect.
oh, and i raised the shift firmness / pressure with a hypertech programmer, worked fine for me.

I have the B&M 24K as well. I'm running a Yank 3600 converter and have no problems.
