    vss wire

I am doing a junk yard swap. Which wire is the vss coming from on the 4l60E tranny. My vss plug was missing. I have a new plug and bothe wires are white. My wires coming from the computer are green and purple.Which is the vss? Is the green wire in the front or the rear of the plug?
    Thanks for any help.

I am trying to wire an electronic speedo from speed hut. It has two wires one for the pulse signal and one for the ground. So which wire sends out the pulse and is the other a ground?

Thanks. I jacked up the rear end and diconnected the shifter cable and vss. Cable was sticking and vss was wired backwards. Seems like I have forward and reverse but when I put the lever in 1st the wheels just stop like the brakes were on.

I have the rear end jacked up and went thru the gears. I know I have second , third and reverse. But when I put the tranny in first I have to rev the motor pretty high to get the tires to to move.

So you're saying when you put the shifter in the manual 1st gear, the wheels do not spin unless you rev it up? What happens in manual 2nd, Drive, and OverDrive?

I haven`t drove the car yet , my shifter cable wore out on me and a new one should be in today and my gauges are all new so my speedo has to be calibrated. But I can`t tell if 4th is coming in and 1st feels like the brakes are on. As soon as I put it in 1st the wheels stop pretty fast. It is a swap so the computer could be wired wrong. The wiring harness is stock .

Let us know what it does when you are able to drive it. Hopefully it'll all work fine.

The computer had a base tune on it fron G Force in friendswood, texas. I wonder if everything got downloaded for the tranny. But then again, my son and I have no experience on wiring an ls1. So we could have missed something.Once we have everything back together and have not solved the problem, we will take car and all back to circle D and see if they can figure it out.

I am wondering what would happen if I unplug the transmission? What gears would I have? If 1st gear starts working properly than we know it is an electronic problem.

I believe the default is 3rd gear.

Thanks for the replies. I took the car to a transmission shop and their computer said that the tranny wasn`t getting the signal for first gear.So what all should I check?

If I remember what he said , that first gear was getting a signal. I don`t have first or fourth gear. I have disconnected the wiring harness to the trabby and this wekend I will check wire continuity. I really don`t know what else besides the plug that could be causing the problem.

Last post was incorrect. What I meant to say was that first and fourth were not getting a signal from the the computer. I checked the wires yesterday and there was continuity to the wires for first gear shift.

I would look into the 1-2 shift solenoid and its wiring. That solenoid is needed for 1st gear and 4th gear to work. If its unplugged, clogged, or inop you can still have 2nd and 3rd

I checked the wires for 1st to second and second to 3rd and they both show continuity. I rubbed some silicone grease on the plug. Readjusted the new shifter cable and now first is trying to come in again but i have to give it some gas for the wheels to move and as soon as i let off the wheels come to a quick stop. I don`t think fourth is working. My Maf is out. I ordered a new 85mm. Got it in the other day only to find it is a 5 pin. So i ordered an adapter. I am hoping, but don`t believe this is contributing to the transmission problems. Someone wrote that a bad maf can cause tranny problems. I hope it is that simple.
