Tranny Swap
long story short. im only getting 200hp to the ground on the dyno on my 2000 T/A and im thinking part of my problem is my Transmission. i found one out of a 1998 T/A which has 2000mi on a rebuild for $800. it seems like a good deal to me and im assuming it will bolt right in wont it?

I think so but be carefull I hate buying used shit cuz people don't care and it could be a dud. Find a trans guy and let him look at yours. for 800 dollars you can get yours fixed if thats whats wrong. in parts it only costs couple hundred if you don't need a valve body or T/C.

I bought an lt1 with only 50k on it for 500 and took it apart the other day and the heads looked ok, pistons and walls looked ok but it had 3 spun bearings in it. 2 rods and a crank. needless to say the crank is so bad that it is a yard decoration now, it screwed up the main cap, and the rods may be no good so I am going to have to buy a crank and rods now and have some heavy machine work done.

200 hp? Is it a 3.8L?
I'm being serious, too. If so then it's normal.

it is an LS1! the rear end has never been messed with. i plan on putting 3:42's in it this summer but now i want to wait until i figure out what is wrong before i waste a bunch of money and stil end up short.

I would still have atrans guy open it up and poke around to see if there is a smoking gun in side there. 98 trans will work but you might need to change shifter shaft depending on if it used a neutral safty switch on the shifter shaft and what you 00 setup is. It's not hard to change. Are you sure the motor is ok? Clogged cats will cause a loss of power. How many times did you have it dynod? Could the guys dyno be wrong? If the car can roast the tires and set you back in the seat when it hits 2nd gear I would say the dyno was wrong. Might want to check compression and pull your valve covers and make sure you don't have any broken springs or bent pushrods if it cant.

what is the tranny doing ? if it acts fine it usually IS fine ,if it doesnt slip when you break tourqe it or gas it goin down the road its not that and if your not sure take it to a trans shop , we check them for free, hopefuly most shops do! then go from there, and definitely check for codes!!
