    Tranny not shifting right

Last night some friends and I went to the track and one of my friends has a 99 TA witha B&M shift kit, 2400 stall with some other bolt on mods. He launches are pretty good with cutting 1.8 60' times, but the car dies out at the end of the quarter mile giving him sub 100mph trap speeds and high 13's to low 14's. He leaves the car in drive on the track but on the way home we played around with it and he manually shifted the car and it felt strong. What could be causeing this to happen, and if it isn't the tranny what else could it be?

Does he know if it is shifting into 4th before the end of the run?
Perhaps he should leave it in 3rd instead of drive?
