    Shorten Shifter....

    Has any one shortened their A4 trans shifter? if so whats it take to do so? and any Pics?

    15 minutes? i posted this yesterday.... and i was just bumping it.....? iv tried searching but i could be bad at searching or i just cant find anything.... and i want to do it to mine....

    No luck...but free bump anyway.

    Why do you want to shorten it? Just curious. You shouldn't be manually shifting it. Is it for appearance only? Have you thought of just maybe an aftermarket knob?

    well i want to shorten it for appearance and im prepairing the car for a 408 stroker i will be rebuilding the trans with a manual valve body also.... i dont want to go aftermarket knob because i like the look of the factory one...

    All the old threads I looked at on here said no one made an aftermarket shifter for the A4.

    I know someone on here replaced the A4 shifter with a T56 shifter handle (i thought) and added the boot to it, or something like that. It looked pretty slick. That's all I have... I guess you could cut it, then use a steel sleeve and weld it, but without a boot it would look like shit...and I don't know how much that would degrade the strength.

    ya i saw that thread also but i really like the stock factory look it just seams too tall for my taste... i was thinking taking off the knob cause idk what ill be working with but carfully cutting it down so that i dont need to do any welding...

    I don't know what a new shifter handle would cost in stock form, but if it is cheap enough, you could try your method and if you f it up...you wouldn't be out too much coin.

    How much do you think you want to shorten it by?

    On another note, it's almost 2AM and I have to be up at 6...FML.

    well im looking at shortening it like an inch, not a ton but enough....

    ya its 3am here and im about to crash but im always looking at sh*t i can do to my car when i have nothing else better to do lmao!
