shift kit worth it?
i was looking into buying a transgo or b&m shift kit and were wondering if anyone has one and if they like it or if it even makes a difference?

I had the Transgo shift kit installed when I went to a performance TC, if your stock, the stock trans should be good enough.

Shift Kit
One of the best modifications you can do to an automatic car is a stall/shift kit combo. If you plan to buy a programmer in the future, I'm pretty sure you can raise the tranny pressure as well as the shift points which would SORT OF act as a shift kit.

Yes it is worth it! It will aid in your trannys life also.
Yes the TransGo kit is better than B&M's.
If you talk to any real tranny builder that build race trannys on a regular basis and they all use TransGo.
Not sure where your at I didn't look but a nice tranny cooler is a good investment also. If you do install one make sure you put a MAG/FILTER in-line right before it goes into the new cooler also.Don't be afraid of the bottle!!! Be afraid of your tune!!!

Transgo here as well.. love it. And the tranny cooler is not an option.. you really need it.. don't want your tranny to blow on you because of added heat.

Besides The Life Of The Trans, Does It Run Any Better? Whats Different?

It shifts MUCH firmer. Depending on what kit you install it will let you hold what ever gear you select until you shift it.
Under full throttle 1-2 and 2-3 shifts it will chirp the tires.
By increasing pressure and and volume it increases the clutches holding which decreases slippage that causes unwanted heat.
Hope that helps you understand. It's still pretty early here.....

What Do You Mean Until You Shift It?
-
07-09-2007, 10:07 AM #11
Well almost all later model trannys will shift automatically even if you have it in first they will shift out after a while at high rpm.
So what I mean is when you manually shift it into first it will hold it in first until you shift it. The same with second.
A lot of TransGo kits will also make it so if you shift it into second it will take off in second unless you down shift to first or place it back in drive or O/D.

i have the b @ m shift kit.............wish i would have gone trango after reading their tech article on their site,
b@m is a cheap way to get a hard shift but with transgo the kit actually reprograms the valve body and reduces gear to gear overlap, now if you don't know what overlap is, it can bee summed up as the time when both gears are actually applied at the same time to help soften shifts, when you shorten this gear overlap with transgo kit, it will give you a much more crisp shift
now performance wise, my camaro and my buddies mustang ran side by side 13.10 untill i got the shift kit then every time i shifted i would scoot ahead by a fender, by the time both shifts were done i almost had a 1/2 car on him, this is with the b@m, trango will work better, next run was my 13.04 to his 13.09

Silver- 2000 Camaro SS
i just ordered a transgo kit for my 700R4. i bought it for $30 new.
ill let u know how the install goes and what not...
question tho... u all say to get a tranny cooler... i thought u only needed the tranny cooler for the street/strip shift kits? i ordered just the improver kit, do i still need a tranny cooler?

The kit should of been more than $30 unless you bought the cheap one that doesn't do as much........ Unless you got a smoking deal.My partner that owns a tranny shop doesn't even get them that cheap.
It's not that you need it it is a benefit of keeping the operating temp. down which increases life.
Go to a local tranny shop and buy one of those inline mag filters. AND PLEASE DON'T MOUNT IT THROUGH THE RADIATOR!!

i love my shift kit.
im unsure what brand it it is
it came installed on the car and the guy i bought it from doesnt know what brand it is.
Its very good investment tho.
Also had a hypertech on it, and damm, it shifted VERY hard before i took off the hypertech programming. Now that its off and im just using the shift kit in the trans, it still hits 2nd hard and barks the tires.
With the hypertech on i could bark the tires in 3rd.
But i also have a 3.73 gear.
edit: it should deffinately improve 1/4 mile times.
It hits gears fast and hard like you where in a manual trans car,
except it's faster than you could do it.00 Z28 M6 T-tops
