RPMs too high

Recently I have been through the ordeal of performing a full tuneup on my 1993 Formula (700r4 auto trans). While everything seems to work properly, the car now exhibits some transmission/torque converter issues. I believe what is happening is that the engine is running at excessive rpm for a given speed. My car used to run at ~2700 rpm at 80mph and now it runs at ~3000 rpm for the same speed. Also, sometimes when I floor it to pass people on the freeway, the transmission will shift down a gear like normal, but shift back up a few seconds later. Are these two problems related? I know my trans has the sticky throttle valve problem and hope to fix that next spring/summer. During the tuneup I replaced my factory ign coil with a new MSD unit....I mention this since I know some wires connect the coil to the TCC solenoid.

Any thoughts?

Umm id say a ball stuck in the valve body plate for the throttle pos. valve. Almost sounds like converter not kicking in given your rpm change converter usually drops rpm 300 to 500 rpm on lock-up.

Whatever it was, it hasn't happened for the past few days. It sounds like something that might be prevented by getting a shift kit and fresh fluids and filter. I had the fluid changed and new filter about a year and half ago. I really want to get a shift kit but I am worried about the cost to have a shop do the work.
