ok, i can get a deal on a new FTI billet 3800 stall converter 9.5 with an STR 2.5
is that too high for my car or just right?

I would wait until you have the gears in there but you will most likely need a tune with that stall. Your shift points will need to be adjusted.

You may also find a tune needed to desensitize the engine misfire tables when that converter is installed.
I found with my 3400 the computer thought the trans was slipping and would set off the engine misfire codes, then put the engine in limp mode thinking there was a problem.
I had to go back in the tune and lower the misfire tables a little at a time until it quite setting the code. Same thing happens when camshafts are installed. Some guys find they have to eliminate the misfire tables completely.
