Low RPM Slippage: Converter?
I'd love for this to be a converter issue because they're cheaper than trannys and i could upgrade it for 'free' relative to simple replacement cost.
Problem is this: slips a couple hundred RPMs in overdrive going up hills and if you try to gently accelerate, say 40% throttle or so in 4th but is fine if you up the throttle more and kick it into 3rd for the dirty work. Tonight it had some issues on occasion shifting back into 4th, aka it wouldn't happen until I completely backed off of the throttle, it just revved to around 4k without being in any gear. Highway speeds are when I first noticed it and yes, I had disabled the tq management in 1-2 and 2-3 shifts in HPTuners though there isn't any from the factory for the 3-4 shift.
Could it be the convertor? Torque load is lowest on highway and the problem only seems to surface on the highway. The overdrive clutches are the weak link in this transmission but they seem fine most of the time; something this whimsical couldn't be clutch related because clutches would be bad ALL of the time or none of it, right? Well, thanks in advance for input. If you guys agree I might order a stall (2800 or so) and put it in in the next week or so - but if that isn't the problem, I WILL be able to re-use the same convertor in a replacement tranny, correct?

I had the same problem with mine about 6 months ago. Starts slipping 4 then it will spread to 3 and even into 2 at WOT. Trans was replaced by a preformance unit.

If your converter is "locked" when you accelerate up hill, it is not the converter for you are @ 1:1 ratio.
