Interior Teardown - anything will prevent A4 from shifting?

Hi, I'm replacing my carpet and I'm in the middle of putting all the parts back together inside the car. I was about to try and put the center console back in but I wasn't able to shift the car out of Park to Neutral in order to get the console to fit over it. I don't know why it's not letting me shift. I tried with the parking brake on and off, with the engine running and just with the accessory power running. I closed all the doors and the hatchback. Still I gear shift won't let me press the bottom and slip from park into gear even with the brake pedal depressed. Is there a wire somewhere I need to check that prevents that button from working?

Never mind. I put back the seats, seatbelts, and other interior pieces saving the console for last. After doing all that the car allowed me to go in to gear again, so the console is back on. Yea.
