Help Picking Tranny

Hey guys, the 4L60E in my 99' z28 is acting up. It occasionally over rev's shifting from 1st to 2nd and 3rd to 4th bouncing off the limiter. Also when downshifting into 2nd from 3rd or OD, or to 3rd from OD the rpm's shoot up like the car is in nuetral, but the tranny takes a minute to engage the gear then the car lunges foward like all hell is breaking loose. Drove it yesterday and i can smell tranny fluid but see no leaks. So im guessing its time for a rebuild. Its not my DD and is only driven on nice days maybe 2 or 3 times a month. I was thnking about the Performabuilt Stage 1 with a converter. I think the stage 2 might be overkill for me. The only mods are SLP lid, filter, loudmouth catback, Motive 3.42's and a Frost tune. Any suggestions?

My 1st suggestion would be to change the transmission fluid in it and filter. Then, after that, decide if you need a rebuild.

My 60E is acting up also. I am pretty sure my reverse is shot. I am looking around for builders who can build a tranny and not have any issues. I am considering the performabuilt trannies because of the price, and no core is required and their warranty is the longest.

I agree with jon, change the fluid and see if the trans is acting up ( how many miles are on the car?), if so then you can think about a rebuild, I am personally looking into a PB lvl2 that will be going on my fairly stock T/A but it will have a procharger on it very soon as well. RPM also has nice transmissions, but bang for buck from a trusted company is going to be performabuilt.

Car only has 76k on it. Its only been drivin 2k mi since june of 10'.
