4L60E is stouter from what I'm told. 4L80E is the mac daddy of O/D transmissions... they'll handle around 700 ft-lbs with a few touch-ups.

    4L80 is a heavy monster.

If you already have a 4L60E, you'd be better off beefing it up. Several here know the ins and outs. ZBONER is one who comes to mind...

Well the reason I asked is my stock tranny went out and instead of rebuilding it i purchaced a raptor 700-r4 it and If i shift manualy it acts like a different beast but I have weird things happen from time to time. Just wondering if that is what causes them? I still have my 4l60-e and will rebuild it but at the time i didnt want down time.

    prob 1. weird vibs
prob 2 at times on hard exeleration when it goes to shift into 3rd it wont accecerate until i let of the gas a little its not slipping because the rpms wont go any higher than 3000 does this have some thing to do with torque management?

Yeah, 4L80E was designed with diesel trucks in mind, so don't expect a big aftermarket for them(JET makes a drop-in unit for $2500ish). 4L60E can apparently be reworked in the valve body to where it can become a 6-speed automatic(1st, 1st o/d, 2nd, 2nd o/d, D, O/D. Saw that in a Hot Rod mag a few years back), and they have the same 3.06 1st gear as the 700-R4. It'll get you out of the hole real quick.

The 700-R4 get a bad rep as being weak... most folks can only build them to about 450 ft-lbs max. However, I do remember a dude in Woodstock, GA who built one for my buddy's 650-hp '84 T/A, knowing the power that it made, and guaranteed it for three years.
