    Deep Transmission Pan (4L60E)

What are you guys running that you like? Our car is not lowered, so clearance isn't really an issue. Figured better to ask than buy something I am not going to like.

I have a deep pan off a 00 truck. I have had no issues with it. It also brought the oil temp down a few degrees. Insurance for longer transmission life IMO.

My new transmission has a stamped steel deep pan on it -- so I assume it is a truck pan. Any benefit to a finned cast aluminum pan or a Derale with the cooling tubes, or is that all advertising hype?

I'm leaning towards all standard shift cars..

    I don't drag race so I don't need a consistant auto..

I like a standard for its fun to drive factor and control..

Allow me to rephrase -- any preference as to style or brand of deep transmission pan?

    I'll do the same..

Metalurgically speaking, aluminum will disapate heat better than steel..

Style? Prolly an aluminum pan with a heat sink cast or machined into the bottom..

Brand? Does'nt matter as long as it's well made and seals properly..

    It's not structural..

Any cooling upgrades will likely be a plus..

I think Jeff was talking about the derale pan that has tubes in the bottom vs a b&m style pan that has grooves cast into the bottom.

I guess if it came down to it I'd likely just run a larger external cooler..

Got that part of it covered. Just trying to decide if replacing the existing stamped steel deep pan with something else is worth the $$.

Anyway that you can keep that trans fluid cooler is worth it for the life of the trans. If you can find real world tests that show a deep cooling pan will cool it 3 to 5 degrees, it's worth the 100 bucks. 98 Tahoe I have has 160K+ on it and came with a acc cooler for the trans and this trans is all original. never rebuilt although yes it is getting real close to time but still shifts good and no slips.

If your not running hot I'd say prolly not..

But on a hot summers day @ the track , it only takes once for it to get too hot and the damage will be done..

    How pricey is it?

If it's under say 600 bucks I'd say pick the best one and just do it for the hell of it..

Dumping money into our cars is what we do lol..

    Jeff,
I run a TCI deep pan. It was cheap, don't remember how much but if I bought it it can't be that bad.

I have no issues with clearance at all. And the trans temps are more steady when beating it.

Good to know. If my flexplate ever shows up, I'll get this thing installed and see what it is like to drive a stalled auto. Thanks again for the ride last year -- that was very cool.
