Automatic Trans Swap
Will an automatic transmission from a 2002 f body be a direct swap into a 97 f body?

no. the torque converter input shaft is different (can't interchange the converters) and the converter to the flywheel bolt pattern is different as well. you could, however, have a converter built with the right bolt pattern to mate to the flywheel maintaining the same input shaft spline count.
i also do believe the pins are different on the plug and harness too. maybe someone will chime in for verification of this.

also the dowl pin holes are a slightly different size that you may or may not have to resize. bell housing will still mate up, but the top center hole won't be used and there's no hole for the the top right if my memory is right.
