4l60e problems not shifting to 2nd and 4th?
Has anyone ever had this problem or know the solution. I have 98 z28 and it will not shift into 2nd or 4th. I have drop the pan and it is super clean with no material and not burnt fluid. I check both shift solenoid and they read between 20-40 ohms, but went ahead and replaced them. I pulled 2-4 servo to check for seal problems, none found. I remove filter to see 2-4 drum and band and there was no metal heat discoloring. I remove pressure switch and tested contact and d2 n/c contact was a little sticky but cleaned it up and it freed up. After putting back together still not going into 2nd or 4th. It's not slipping it's not even attempting to go into 2nd or 4th, only have 1st and 3rd. Please help poor man enthusiast overcome hotrod blues. Thanks!

Maybe a bad plug connection ? Try reseating the plugs on the transmission & maybe even the connectors on the ECM under the hood. The computer runs everything...
I never heard of this one...

My OBDII connection is not working also, I have try two scanners from parts store and neither would connect. They told me I may have to take it to dealer to reading ses codes. You maybe right about ecm connection, I'll check it, thanks!

Check the ciggerette lighter to see if the fuse is blown. It shares the OBD power...

Reconected ecm and trans plug but no effect on 2nd 4th shift. I did however find that the cig fuse was missing, thanks. Do you know what fuses 3 and 13 on dash fuse block are for both are label (stg whl cntrl) both are missing. Any other ideas on trans problems?

Your owner's manual should tell you, unless you don't have it. I'm not at home or I would check mine for you.

Not sure about them, can't look at mine at the moment, it's locked in a car trailer in a rain storm... At least the scanner should work now.
It could still be in the valve body too...

Yes it could be. Mine over heated at one point (previous owner) and had plenty of things messed up inside it, stuck valves etc.. I hear they are a bitch to remove and re-install. I had a mechanic mess with it after i figured it was that, sure enough it was.
I had lock up issues though, not shifting issues.

Is there a way to check to signal to the shift solenoid? I have pin out to trans case connector.

I'm pretty dang sure you can, but I can't help you. I just don't know enough yet about the insides of my trans
I'd recommend a search on here and ls1tech.com

Should I get trouble codes for the trans problem when I scan?

if its an electrical problem youll get codes but only if the resistance is out of range of what the computer expects to see.if the solenoid is stuck mechanically then your computer wont even recognise a problem.but one quick qestion does it have reverse?if revese is gone then itll be the sun shell which is very commonly broken. with the sun shell stripping out youll lose reverse secondand fourth and most the time you wont find any metal in the pan or any thing burnt or discolored.

I'm guessing it's a stuck solenoid.

No side to side movement of band (like it's broke) and I can apply the band with pressure. When driving it is like you have shifter in low. You have to let off the gas any let it go straight to 3rd. When your in 3rd and mat it and it downshifts it's like you when to netrual. You never feel the trans attemp to shift to 2nd or 4th. I've replaced both shift solenoids and check 2-4 servo. It drive find besides no 2nd and 4th, feels solid, no noises or vibrations. Could it be the presure switch?

I think if you have ruled out everything else it's time to look at the 2-4 servo and the 2-4 band. If you have reverse and you can get on it in reverse with out it slipping, I would say MAYBE it's not the sunshell. The only thing you have in comon in 2nd and 4 th gear that wont cause problems in any other gears is the 2-4 servo and the 2-4 band. If your shift solenoids were stuck on or were bad you would have other signs. You need to rule out electricall first but I think you might need to look to the 2-4 band or anchor pin on it or the 2-4 servo.

like jaycen said the only other thing 2nd and 4th have in common is the band and the servo, when you say youve checked the servo did you visually inspect the seals on the apply side of things? if the seals on the servo are bad this could happen also. since youve changed all electrical components that can be stuck or fualty the problem almost has to be mechanical.any thing else electrical would almost surely be throwing a code.
