4L60E filter change
I just changed the filter in my 4L60E trans and the new filter came with a new seal for the filter. Are you supposed to change this seal everytime you change the filter? The reason I'm asking is I had a terrible time getting the old one out and the new one in. Do they make a special tool for this?
Thanks

Yes you need to change it. It get between the tranny and seal and crush the seal. Pull it out with needle nose pliers. INstall new seal with a socket of the same size as a punch to push it in. It's a pain but you run the risk of the old seal not sealing and sucking air not tranny fluid.

Thank you for the information because I would not have changed that seal again but now I will. On my transmission the seal was driven in till it was flush and I had to use a bearing puller slide hammer to get it out. What a pain.
