4l60E, 700R4 or TH400?
Allright here's the deal. Pulling the trigger on my exhaust cai intake and tune in july and im am starting to put together my laundry list of everything else i want to do. I have a good idea of what i want for and end result but I still have to lock some things down. One being transmission options. I currently have a 4L60E. Here is what i want out of my transmission. I want to keep it auto, Run a manual valve body, ratchet shifter and i want it to handle about 800hp. So what trransmission do you guys think i should go with? if you are wondering what my intentions are with the car here they are. I am looking to make the car a weekend warrior after this deployment. As far as track time I am looking more towards road tracks and auto x than the strip. I want to keep the car as road legal as possible through all of this. Any insight that you guys could provide would be great. I wont be doing the transmission for a while but im kinda a detail nazi lol. If there is any more info you need to give your opinion please let me know and i will be glad to provide.

700R4 and 4L60E are the same thing essentially. For that kind of grunt you would need a built 4L60E or a TH400. Only thing with the TH400 is that you will not have overdrive. I installed a Performabuilt Level II in our car about a month ago and love it. I think mine is rated to handle 600 hp.

lol PaJeff02 i should jsut start PMing you!!! you tune in on just about every thread i create! Ya i kinda figured the 700R4 would be ruled out quick but i didnt know if it would be a viable option seeming how it does have the overdrive but isnt electronically controlled. Didnt know if being electronically controlled would present an issue with me wanting to go with a manual valve body and ratchet shifter. Gotta go bring the wife shopping so i can order my parts tonight for the Exhaust and CAI. Ill check out those threads you posted after bravingthe mall man. Thanks for the advice pajeff02.

2002 Z28 A4 NBM- Sadly now demodded :(
If you're road racing and auto crossing than a manual tranny would be my choice. "Viperized" T56 should work.
If 1/4 mile jaunts then the auto would be the choice.
