2001 SS Tranny Shift Problems
Greetings from a newbie. I have a 2001 Camaro SS with an autotransmission. I am experiencing intermittent shift problems e.g. delayed 1 and 2nd gears. It seems to occur on very hot days (South Carolina) or after hard acceleration. Had a transmission shop run codes and they said a new transmission. Had the dealer run the codes and they found nothing. Majority of the time it runs normal. Any suggestions as to how to proceed?

Are you getting a check engine light? It is possible you need a transmission , particularly if theres no codes and this only happens when hot, How many miles are on the car ?

Make sure the fluid level is absolutely correct, if it's a little low it'll shift funny. Had the same problem after my TC install and never threw a code. Get the manual out and follow the procedures to the letter a few times, PITA to check but might be worth it. Hope it's not the trans...

Check the 1-2 accumulator piston it might be cracked or it might have a worn hole where the pin rides. You could also have a sticky 1-2 accumulator valve or bad trans. Good luck Vince.

Def check fluid level, it doesnt take much to screw with your shifts. An 01 with 50k should not have tranny problems (assuming its stock). Also, you could always try a trans gage and/or cooler to monitor and/or cool the tranny because it seems it is only messing up when it heats up.

Chaning the filter and draining the fluid is what I'd recommend, and use the fluid that the manual recommends, after-market shit can sometimes fuck things up.
