    Whats the gain?

    Ive got a 98 t/a with LTs, ORY, SLP cat back, lid, bellows, filter, hypertech tuner, 3.73, MSD wires, hot plugs.
    I've got a 85mm SLP MAF and 85mm TB and LS6 intake. Is the gain that much and will i need to tune it over the hyprtech hand held ive got on it now? Free mods arent done and egr is still on it. Comments and advice please.

    Well, I would like to say I would throw the stock maf back on it or go to a good tuner with some time to get the tune right. Handhelds are about worthless IMO.

    I havent put the maf on yet. kinda worried it would be to much for the stock computer. I know the hand helds arent the best but i got a deal so i got it.

    The 98 computers arent that bad. Keep the stock maf and get a great tune and you could easily see 335 outta that combo.

    just to be clear are we refering to the MAF as the mass air flow meter or the tune by the hand held?

    Removing the hypertech tuning will increase your HP about 10. Adding the LS6 intake will add an additional ten HP. The 85mm stuff won't really benefit you. I am not joking about the hyperech tuning being junk either.

    MAF=Mass air flow sensor

    Preston is correct. Ive read on here where when people remove the tune at the track they can run ungodly amounts faster without the hypertech

    On my previous SSvert when I was just getting into LS1's and didn't know any better, hypertech was my 2nd mod after a lid. I took it to the dyno and dynoed HIGHER without the hypertech tuning. Hypertech is a waste of money. It doesn't adjust your a/f ratio, timing, or anything else that a real tuner will do to optimize your HP. Hypertech is good for a few things, but nothing that will optimize your HP.

    Its good for changing shift points, changing the temp the fans come on if you have changed your thermostat and if you change the rear tire size you can adjust the computer to recognize the different tire size. Other than that, its pretty useless for LS1s.

    Sorry, I just had a typo there, I meant to say an LS6 intake would give you about +10RWHP. I will fix my first post.

    more bad news for you. an aftermarket MAF will flow more bacause its bigger, but lots of them are less accurate than stock and require tuning....they can dangerously lean your motor out if not tuned right.
    but to make you feel better, I have an 85mm SLP MAF and a Superchips handheld tuner sitting on the shelf in my garage too.

    The HyperTech tune will show gains on a dynojet dyno.
    Will show a LOSS at the track though.

    They add timing and lean you out a touch. This 'adds' power but will risk your motor as well. NOT a safe tune. Get that HyperCrap/Diablo/Handheld tune off the car ASAP!!!!!!

    Don't use the SLP MAF either. Regardless of what tune you are running.

    you could do the intake/tb swap easily in an hour or two.....the bottom of the ls6 intake has some ribs that need to be ground down to clear you coolant crossover tubes, but with a grinder or a dremel tool you'll have it fitting in no time
