first off your not going to lose any hp, you most likely will gain 5-10hp for an aftermarket system, personally i have had just about every kind of exhaust set up.
i perfer Corsa and GMMG, corsa is on my car now and i like it, if you want very loud go borla i have had that also.
here is a clip of my old z with headers off road Y pipe and borla exhaust..

Whats on your car now
if you have the dual dual its not a bad setup
If you want it louder maybe get some LTs
and an ORY if you dont need the cats

if you have the SLP system, buy a magnaflow bullet muffler, its a direct replacement and sounds great, thats what i have on my car, louder than magnaflow but eliminates the rasp caused from the SLP resonator

If you currently have the SLP Dual Dual Catback, I wouldn't recommend cutting it up to add a different muffler. This catback is a very good flowing system and is no longer in production. So it can be a very sought-after catback, to the right person. Both very good reasons not hack it up.
If I were you, I would do one of two things. You could add Long Tube Headers and an Aftermarket Y-pipe to the Dual/Dual, which would give you a very good flowing exhaust setup, but wouldn't do much for making your car any louder. Or if you're looking to just get louder, keep your stock manifolds and Y setup and add either GMMG catback or one of the two SLP Loudmouth systems. Any of these catbacks would very noticeably increase the exhaust note.
My brother has the factory optioned Dual/Dual on his 35th Ann. SS and we matched a set of Jet Hot LT's and a Pacesetter ORY to it. I have both a "before" and "after" video of the car on youtube, if you're interested in hearing the difference. Here is a link to two of the vids.

Good luck with your choice.Last edited by Mumbles; 11-10-2009 at 07:08 AM.
