is welding exhaust tips necessary?
Hey. I just ordered a slp exhaust and 3.5" quad tips on ebay since the slp quads are small as crap. good deal actually. 2.5" inlet, bolt on, and seem to be perfect corsa clones, doesn't call them that but seem better than the small official corsa clones.
anyway, is it safe to just bolt them on? i have heard of someone losing one on here, but then again maybe they didn't tighten them enough or something. what have you guys done?

weld on will look better and If your going to get something else welded than I would do it but I would not make a special trip for it.

I like to have tach welded. Just like one little spot at each joint so it doesn't slip and get crooked but will still be easy enough to remove if necasary.

Agreed welded makes for a much cleaner look and also keeps your tips from moving around on you.

Are the tips a slotted slip fit connection or just a slip fit?

exact ones i bought. all it says is clamp bolt. they will be going on a slp catback which comes with bolt on tips itself so i assume it will fit well...

The SLP cat-back comes with tips that are a slip fit with no slot. You have to use the supplied clamp.
The tips that you bought have a slot and already have bolt and nut welded on so you do not need a seperate clamp. Although, the problem with those tips is that the inlet end is 2.5" outside diameter. Your tailpipes are 2.5" outside diameter. You will need to have the inlet on the tips expanded to slide over the tailpipe. the problem with this is that when they go to expand them, they will not stay round since the slit will create a weak spot. Have the shop take their time doing this and you are almost definnitly going to have to weld them on if you do not want them to leak or fall off.

I would pretty much weld any quad tip set up. A round tip set up can move a lil but you won't notice. You will notice a crooked quad set up.

Weld them. It should cost next to nothing to have them tacked up.

^ lol didnt think of that, and since they are mirror finished 3.5" corsa clones that could be a problem. some guy with a focus might want em.
