From what I understand there is a little power gain as well, opens the tb by a few mm and smooths out the inlet so there should be more air available and less turbulence. hopefully that has one done will chime in as well as I plan on getting one with my headers and exhaust.

I had a k&n fipk II on the car when I bought it. I switched to a lid because i prefer the look. Didnt notice any difference. It's a good bit of money for little gain if any. Yes I heard the k&n intake more but that means nothing to me. With having a Z28 I didn't like pulling my air from an open filter in the engine bay, but again, imo it's more an appearance thing than performance if you already have a lid.
