V6 to v8 in a 96 Firebird.
Allright. I got a 3800 v6 sitting where a V8 should be! lol.
My goal is to swap in the 5.3 litre LM7 Vortech 5300 out of the newer trucks. The beauty of these motors is that LSx parts bolt right on to it. So I want to in essence swap in a 5.3 liter LS1/t56. The car is already a 5 speed, and I dont know much about 4th gen fbody's so heres my list of questions...
For reference My "LM7" is really going to be a 5.3l ls1 with Fbody everything, oilpan, intake, heads, alternator all from an fbody ls1.
1. Will the engine k-member out of an ls1 car(98+) fit in place of my v6 crossmember, and will it fit the lm7 block(the oilpan will be that from an fbody)
2. What is the difference in the Rearends between v6 and v8 cars?
3. Is there a more effective alternative to front springs when swapping the motors? for example an aftermarket set of springs, vs using stock v8 ones off a parts car.
4. Has anyone ever done a similar swap on these boards before? (im going to use the search feature after I post this)
Please let me know.

James the easiest thing to do, and i hate to say it, is to just sell the v6 and get a v8...
it will be some much cheaper and better for you in the long run...

is say do it
for the k member you may have to call bmr to get the best answer, but i do beleive it will bolt right in
the rear end... the v6 usually have different ratios and an open diff, simple fis is to either go all out and get a 12 bolt or built you 10 bolt with an aurburn posi, 3.73, and the rear end support girdle,
anf for the front suspension just use the ones off the v8 parts car
Now i have a question for you, why are you going 5.3 instead of the 5.7 ls1
and also what is your budget

The standard rear gear is a 2.73 open diff. Do yourself a favor and dont waste your money building your 10 bolt, just go for 12 bolt or a 9" so you aren't replacing parts for a 10 bolt whenever something breaks.
Stay away from anything higher than 3.42 especially if you decide to keep the 10 bolt. The 3.72 and 4.10s will kill it in no time plus ur gas mileage is gonna be absolute dog $hit.
Hmm, while being different isnt necessarily a bad thing, im still kinda confused as to why ur using the 5.3L. Are you getting a good deal on it?
