Used Headers
I just picked up a set of used (short) headers...flame me if you want. i got them from a junkyard for about $100.They are JBA and appear to be coated. I have a couple of concerns before i put them on.
1. What kind of prep work should i do to them? They are rather filthy on the inside (expected). Should i just leave them? Should i sand down the corrosion and paint them or is it not worth it?
2. What hardware do i need? What are the best gaskets etc to use?
3. I was considering the AIR delete, but the more i think about it, the less i want to deal with it as its fully functional and isnt bothering me seeing a couple of hoses coming off the exhaust.
btw...the reason i got these was that i had a broken stud in my drivers side cat to manifold and none of the shops i took it to wanted to deal with it for less than $100. Also wasnt looking to spend the money on LT and an ORY.

blacker than wesleysnipes- 98' trans am
1. if they are filthy you need to make sure and get them cleaned..inside and out.
2.gm mls gaskets are the best. i would also use stock header bolts ...no real need for the stage 8 lockers.
3. leave the air if you want..especially if you dont plan on getting a tune anytime soon..as the SES light will be on.

^^^ agreed. They might not be long tubes but hey, they were $100 and they are better than stockers any day of the week...

you could also take it to a machine shop and see if they will wash it..they dunk it in some shit and cleans it right off.

i'll try the purple power tomorrow. the brake cleaner method didn't work. How do i know if they are coated? I know it seems dumb, but i don't know. I feel like they aren't based on their condition. I'll get these pics up soon.
