The only thing I can think of is if you have a huge stereo pulling on the alternator. But you already addressed that by looking for a smaller alternator pulley. If you don't have a big stereo, then the stock alternator pulley should be fine.

Early versions were known to throw belts and some couldn't be used with double roller timing chains. Those issues have been corrected. Good brands are ASP, SLP, and Powerbond. TSP usually has the best deals on Powerbond. $199.00 with belts and crank bolt I believe. I got mine for 209.00 I don't think anbody will tell you that they noticed a gain in HP they could really feel. I bought mine because I am getting a new cam put in and the stocker pully has to come off anyway, so why not put a underdrive one one in it's place. I just wanting the faster revs myself. I seriously doubt I'll notice 6-8 HP on a near 400HP car.

In Jersey you'll be ok. Out here in AZ in thbe heat we have issues sometimes in the summer running warm.
Get the 2 piece and even though you don't have a stereo put the alt. pulley on.It will give you a nice voltage increase at idle.
Don't be afraid of the bottle!!! Be afraid of your tune!!!
