TSP Catted Y pipe
I have had my SS for 6 years and finally thinking about doing LS6 intake and headers.
I'm running a Borla CB right now and love how it sounds. I don't want to run an ORY because I have heard they sound like crap with a Borla and I know they will be just too loud for me.
Will I lose much hp going with the TSP catted Y pip? Also how will it should paired with Pacesetters and a Borla exhaust?

sadly i have to agree, i installed a TSP catted Y in february, with their catback, the drivers side hangs low, like everyone elses has, and ive already rubbed through the cat and its leaking.

Not sure you would find a catted Y-pipe for long tube headers that "doesn't" hang low on the driver side. That's a tall order to fill. Barely room for a 3" non-catted "Y" over there.
The car was designed to have the cats up by the engine, not down under the cars floor pans.
There may be something out there that fits better, I wouldn't know, I've never run cats on anything, but I always here how the TSP catted Y fits horribly. I'm not surprised though. Tight clearance might be something you just have to live with if a catted Y is a must have with your long tube headers.
Personally, I'd do without (if you can in your area) and then just deal with the exhaust system itself to obtain the sound quality you like. I've always said, installing catalytic converters to tone down an exhaust system is a bandaid for the real issue. Why not just install a mild bullet muffer in the I-pipe to tone it down, it wouldn't choke the engine down as much as a pair of cats will.

the TSP cats i have arent too big, but theres well over an inch between the top of the cat, and the bottom of the floor pan.
mine are a few years old though, if you look on their website now, the current model has totally inline cats, its looks like a catless Y.

30 hp no. More like 15-20. I wouldnt get the tsp y pipe though. I have the ory my car and it was a pain in the ass to put on but pretty much anything with exhaust is.

30 rwhp from a set of headers and Y pipe are really asking for alot.
Generally a good set of headers on a stockish LS1 won't yield that much power. To put it simply, the factory exhaust manifolds just aren't that horrible of a piece. Not like 40 years ago. So picking up HP on the LS engines is a marginal gain.
To put that in perspective (no dyno) but my particular car after a header and catless Y-pipe install and a retune only picked up a tenth in the quarter mile and not quite 1 mph. That's nowhere near a 30 rwhp HP gain. More like 10-15 hp.

Be leary of those cheap tiny cats on these Y-pipes. I've seen alot of complaints where these things don't last long before setting codes. Appears they break down fast, cheap materials in the manufacturing process. That's why they are offered at such a cheap price.

No sense in having them then. If you just want to pass a visual inspection, then why not just gut the things, or run a different Y-pipe with cats just for inspection purposes, after the inspection put your off road Y on and go.
